My Story
I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley, and I've seen firsthand how substance use can quietly take hold of a young person's life — and how devastating that can be for the entire family. That experience planted a seed in me: a deep desire to be the kind of counselor I wish had been available in our community.
After earning my licensure as a Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) in Texas, I dedicated my practice to adolescents — the age group I believe is most in need of specialized, compassionate care. Teenagers aren't just small adults. Their brains are still developing, their identities are forming, and the pressures they face are unique. My approach is built around that reality.
I founded Shepherd's Way because I wanted to create something different — a place where faith and healing aren't in conflict, where a young person can walk in carrying shame and walk out carrying hope. The name comes from my belief that good counseling is like shepherding: patient, present, and always pointing toward a better path.
I am bilingual (English and Spanish), which allows me to serve our diverse community more fully. Whether you come to me in English or Spanish, you'll receive the same warmth, the same rigor, and the same commitment to your family's healing.
My Philosophy of Care
I believe that lasting recovery requires more than just stopping a behavior — it requires rebuilding a life. That means addressing the emotional wounds underneath the substance use, strengthening family relationships, and helping young people discover a sense of purpose and identity that doesn't depend on substances.
My sessions are warm, structured, and always tailored to the individual. I draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and family systems work — integrated with spiritual reflection for those who find meaning in faith.
"I don't fix people. I walk alongside them while they discover they were never broken — just lost. And together, we find the way back."
The Faith-Based Approach
What Faith-Based Counseling Means in Practice
Faith-based counseling at Shepherd's Way means integrating spiritual principles — hope, grace, forgiveness, community, and purpose — into the therapeutic process. It doesn't mean preaching or requiring religious participation.
For many families in the Rio Grande Valley, faith is already a central part of life. I honor that. For those who don't identify with a particular faith, I use these principles as universal human values — and they still work beautifully.
